Holidays are a special family time.
This year there is a gap that cannot be filled.
Holiday decorations are left untouched.
They become dusty from being ignored.
The lights of the tree glisten and twinkle.
What once brought happiness now brings overwhelming sadness.
So many memories hang on that tree.
I bask in the light and sadly remember.
Christmas past will lead me to christmas tomorrow.
Memories of what was will soften in time
And equip me to make new memories for tomorrow,
Memories that will enable me to smile.
I sit in the darkness with only Christmas tree lights on.
I reflect and allow my tears to come.
This is the first Christmas without you.
Will I find the strength to see it through?
I know I am not alone.
Others are facing the same crushing pain.
It becomes somehow easier
When we know we aren't alone.
Tree lights used to be magic for me.
They evoked a warmth that pervaded my soul.
Please let your merry light wash over me
Warm my cold heart and crush the pain.
