Four Seasons of Grief

Four Seasons of Grief
LindaC

Summer is past with its' days of heat.
The slow, lazy days have vanished.
Fall has arrived, cool and crisp
With a nip in the air to remind us
That winter is not far away.

Grief is like the four seasons.
Summer brings an intensity.
Pain, iron hot pierces my heart.
It swelters, the heat engulfes me
There is no relief to be had.

Fall brings a chill.
My heart is numbed.
The pain is crisp and chilling.
It reminds us that winter will soon isit
And we long for the numbness to remain.

Winter gief is so cruel.
It is frostbite of the heart.
A cold so deep and icy
we wonder if we'll ever feel warm again.
Our hearts are encased in a icy wasteland.

Spring offers hope for the future.
A time for a grieving heart to begin to mend.
Life begins to beckon us with brightness
A promise of life going on.
We eagerly pull toward the light.

Grief encompasses all the seasons.
We move through the pain in stages.
Each of us visits all four seasons.
Each of us does our own unique journey.
and we long for the spring to come.
