October 15 - A Special Day of Remembrance
Posted By Clara Hinton   |  Sep 24, 2003

October 15 has been set aside as a special day of remembrance for parents who have gone through child loss. The day has been named "Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day", and is a day when many parents will come together and read poems, release balloons, have a remembrance parade, and light candles in memory of their children.

Many hospitals have turned this day into a time of special recognition of parents who have lost children. Parents can come together for a time of remembering, and they will get to hear their child's name mentioned in a roll call of children at the hospital.

Some communities have special parks where remembrances can be placed in memory of those children who have died.

If your community is not doing something for October 15, why not be instrumental in beginning a special time of remembrance? By remembering, we give special validation of those children who are no longer with us. These special ways of remembering are one more positive step forward in the process of grief work.

For more thoughts on how to observe October 15, be sure to visit the chat boards on SilentGrief.com as well as read through the large slection of grief support articles in the articles section of SilentGrief.com.

If you've not already done so, be sure to order your copy of the book, Silent Grief, to help guide you through the many emotions felt during the journey of grief from child loss.

Remember the children--observe October 15.

Love,
Clara Hinton
